Steph began applying her relentless determination towards entrepreneurial endeavours at a young age. When she was 7 years old, she decided she was going to make her first $100. After a lot of hand squeezed lemonades and other 25 cent chores, her first business was a success.
Her entrepreneurial spirit continued with other small business projects, until she opened her first official coaching business. She ran this venture out of her dorm room at UBC, where she received a BA in International Relations and Women's Studies, with co-op option. Upon graduation, she continued her coaching business full-time, receiving certification from Coach U.
Driven by a commitment to create positive change in the world, and ready to take her entrepreneurial knack to the next level, in 2006 she co-founded the charity Run for One Planet. "R41P" is an ongoing run organization focused on inspiring environmental action, one step at a time.
Dreaming big, she co-founded R41P by running 11,000 miles around North America. She had never run 26.2 miles (one marathon) in one go when she committed to do this, which isn't very good if you will be part of a team of two running 420 marathons across Canada and around America, in one year.
As a first-time marathoner, she not only completed the run, along with co-founder Matt Hill, but she did so while leading a team of over 30 people spread across the continent, speaking to over 30,000 kids, doing over 200 presentations, countless media interviews, raising over $120,000. To honour the organization, the Mayor officially declared May 8th as Run for One Planet Day in the City of Vancouver.
She continues to spread their motto that "Small Steps Add Up" for environmental action, serving on the Board of Directors. She is also a proud member of BC Hydro's Team Power Smart Leaders, alongside team members like Steve Nash, Bob Lenarduzzi, and Chip Wilson.
Her leadership of this unprecedented expedition has allowed her the opportunity to speak on inspiring entrepreneurial success for nationally distinguished organizations like lululemon athletica, Whole Foods Market and Planet Organic Market, as well as hundreds of other local groups striving for excellence, like Olympic athletes and Student Leadership Conferences.
She has spoken in diverse venues to a range of group sizes, from intimate groups at a Buddhist Monastery to a few hundred gathered on Parliament Hill to over a thousand on college football fields, in over 30 states and 10 provinces.
She has been widely recognized as an emerging leader, receiving accolades such as a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award presented by Prince Edward, YWCA's Young Woman of Distinction Award (finalist), and eWomenNetwork's International Emerging Leader of the Year Award.
Observing her own and others' lives become transformed by practicing yoga, Steph has focused her drive to create positive change in the world by supporting yoga teachers to realize greater entrepreneurial success. She is the Business Director for the Yoga School of Business.
