What is Environmental Action?

The Run for One Planet is a run to make Environmental Action mainstream in North America.

One person, One action, One step at a time.

What is ‘Environmental Action’?

It is action, including our daily habits and consumer choices, that is environmentally friendly on purpose. It is action that’s inspired with knowledge of what is good for the planet.

The intention of the Run for One Planet is to inspire a big enough shift in our thinking of how our daily actions and consumer choices contribute to the health of our environment that we make taking Environmental Action a way of life.

Why is Environmental Action important in North America?

Because the US is only 4% of the world’s population, but is responsible for about 22% of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions.

Because Canada ranks as the 7th largest consumer of primary energy in the world, and is one of the largest carbon emitting countries in the world (2.5% of the world’s total).

Because North America produces about 25% of the world’s Co2 emissions in the world, and is only about 5% of the world’s population.

Because in the World

  • All 10 of the hottest years on record have occurred in the last 15 years.
  • More carbon dioxide is now in the atmosphere than has been in the past 650,000 years.
  • Greenland’s glaciers are melting into the sea twice as fast as previously believed.
  • Ocean levels are estimated to rise about 6 feet over the next 100 years, or sooner, would cause untold devastation and economic blunder to populations worldwide, not to mention the displacement of huge populations on coastal regions.
  • The Earth’s temperatures have warmed more in the past 50 years than ever before in history.

With stats like this, why not take action?
